At HVC in Alkmaar the largest low temperature sludge drying plant in the world is being realized. Replacement of the old plant with as an important starting point the realization of sustainability, the old plant consumes an enormous amount of natural gas.
From the beginning of 2026, 232,000 tons of sewage sludge from eight water boards will be processed here annually. Using residual heat (steam) from the adjacent waste-to-energy plant in Alkmaar, the sludge in this new plant will be dried by evaporation. At the end of this process, granulated pellets remain. These granules are a full-fledged biofuel and will be used in a biomass power plant. Part of it will be used by HVC itself, the remainder will be used in other bioenergy plants and cement plants.
Commissioned by the “Verwater Group” PohlCon Benelux Cable Support has delivered the cable support systems for this project. Both the primary route of Wide-Span cable ladders (WP), and the secondary route of Shipladders and Protection Tubes and the support system PUK Strut. These product ranges are available in different designs, with a wide range of fittings and in different material finishes for optimal protection against external influences.
Product Features Wide-Span cable ladders (WP):
- Optimal loading; because the ladder is equipped with welded rungs made of perforated C-profile, the ladder has increased rigidity and stability. This allows the WP cable ladder to be used in widths up to 1000 mm with heavy allowable loads.
- Larger spans; PohlCon has developed a special patented clamping system, the WPF series, which distributes the load of the cable ladders more widely on the support. A larger span is therefore possible.
- Trouble-free cable pulling; The rungs of the WP cable ladder have recessed perforations. As a result, the cables do not come into contact with the perforations in the rungs during cable pulling, thus completely eliminating cable damage.
- Neat cable attachment; The rungs are equipped with a transverse perforation. This transverse perforation allows the cables to be attached to the rungs in a very neat way.
- Safe assembly; The crimped outer edges of the side profiles of the WP cable ladders not only provide additional reinforcement but also ensure safe assembly by installers.
- Longer life; The edges of the side profiles also feature drainage holes. This prevents water accumulation which contributes to a longer service life.
